1971 – Founded as Southern Strip Steel in Eminence, KY.

1977 – Southern Strip Steel acquires Miller Steel in Kokomo, IN.

1979 – Kokomo operations relocated to Greenfield facility in Peru, IN.

1984 – Southern Strip Steel enters the state of Michigan, establishing a facility in Madison Heights.

1985 – Southern Strip Steel successfully completes IPO and changes name to Steel Technologies.

1986 – Mi-Tech Steel, a Steel Tech/Mitsui & Co. partnership servicing New Domestic automotive, is founded.

1987 – Mi-Tech opens new Greenfield facility in Murfreesboro, TN.

1987 – Steel Technologies opens new Greenfield facility in Portage, IN. 

1989 – Mi-Tech opens new Greenfield facility in Greensburg, IN. 

1991 – Steel Technologies opens new Greenfield facility in Canton, MI.   

1994 – Steel Tech acquires 80% in Aceros Y Maquilas TYCOME, SA de CV., a steel processor in Monterrey, Mexico.

1995 – Steel Technologies opens new Greenfield facility in Ghent, KY. 

1997 – Steel Technologies completes acquisition of Atlantic Coil Processing in Clinton, NC.

1997 – Mi-Tech opens new Greenfield facility in Decatur, AL. 

1998 – Steel Technologies completes acquisition of Roberts Steel in Cleveland, OH.

1999 – Steel Technologies opens new Greenfield facility in Berkeley, SC. 

2000 – Steel Technologies opens new Greenfield facility in Matamoros, Mexico. 

2002 – Mi-Tech opens new Greenfield facility in Madison, MS. 

2003 – Steel Technologies acquires assets of Cold Metal Products in Ottawa, OH.

2006 – Steel Technologies completes acquisition of Kasle Steel Corporation.

2007 – Steel Technologies opens new Greenfield facility in Juarez, Mexico. 

2007 – Steel Technologies acquires MASCI in Cambridge, Ontario.

2007 – Steel Technologies is merged with Mitsui & Co (U.S.A.), Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsui & Co, Ltd.

2008 – Steel Technologies opens new Greenfield facility in Woodstock, Ontario. 

2008 – Steel Technologies merges and consolidates Mi-Tech Steel. 

2008 – Steel Technologies merges and consolidates MSI (Mitsui Steel, Inc.).

2010 – Steel Technologies’ parent company, Mitsui & Company (USA) Inc., and Nucor Corporation form “NuMit”, a 50/50 joint venture, which now owns 100% of Steel Technologies.

2011 – Steel Technologies acquires NuPro – Crawfordsville IN.

2012 – Steel Technologies opens new Greenfield facility in Celaya, Mexico.

2013 – Steel Technologies opens new Greenfield facility in Pesqueria, Mexico.

2014 – Steel Technologies completes acquisition of Stripco – Mishawaka, IN.
